To Market, To Market

To Market, To Market by Anne Miranda. Illustrated by Janet Stevens

To Market, to Market is a story about grocery shopping gone awry. The story is of an elderly woman going to the market and buying a number of animals for dinner. She buys a pig, a hen, a duck, a lamb, a cow, and more. Each time she brings another animal home the other animals are getting into trouble. They are digging through her garbage, eating her shoes and hats. Soon, the grandmother gets fed up and goes to market to buy vegetables to make some soup.

The background of the book is in black and white, but the animals and the grandmother are in color. This is a great way to teach children about color. Children will be able to keep up with the characters and the story. The font is large, and each new animal is introduced in bright red font. This book is great for preschoolers, letting kids learn colors, animals, fruit and vegetable names.
