This weekly meme is an attempt to improve my reader’s advisory skills as well as highlight the great literature out there for kids, and their uses for library story times.Zookeeper Sue by Chris Demarest by Chris Dearest Red Wagon Books – Harcourt Brace & Co, 1999 ISBN 0152020179
Guess which animals Sue is feeding as readers follow her during meal time at the zoo?
This book is particularly awesome for toddler story times because it is a lift-the-flap book. From my experiences, kids go crazy for these because they love the guessing game involved. On each page, Sue feeds a different animals. The sentences are short and provide clues to help the reader guess the animals. This book is great for learning about animals, animal sounds, colors and meals. You can also use this to discuss different concepts such as: above, below, behind, etc. The book is printed in bold solid colors and is definitely better for the younger aged children. This is a great book to add to either a Zoo themed story time, or a fun jobs themed story time.
