Ready, Set, Read!

The ABC's of being a children's Librarian

Friday Baby Storytime 10/21/2011

on October 21, 2011
This weekly meme is an attempt to improve my reader’s advisory skills as well as highlight the great literature out there for kids, and their uses for library story times.
90 people today instead of the 95 last week. Storytime has been consistently packed each week, but so far the kids and parents have been ideal. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the quiet of 20+ infants sitting and staring at the books in my hand.

This was today’s routine:
ABC Song
Clap, roll, rub hands (slow then quickly)
Open/Shut Them
If You’d Like to Read A Book – Clap Your Hands

Book 1: Best Bear by Emma Dodd
Best bear
A wonderful book about a boy and his well loved, hugged teddy bear. The kids and parents really liked this one. I think every family has one toy that’s had to be mended numerous times.
Songs
Hickory Dickory Dock
One, Two
Roly Poly (2x)
Itsy Bitsy Spider (2x)
If You’d Like to Read a Book – Clap Your Hands

Book 2: Sheep Asleep by Gloria Rothstein
Sheep asleep
A fantastically illustrated counting book. From 10 sheep to 1, we go through all the steps of going to bed, from putting on the PJs and brushing teeth, to the last minute bed-jumping and energy busters before being tucked in for the night.
Songs
Ten Little Peas in a Pea Pod Pressed
Head, Shoulders, knees and toes
Little Bird
This is big, big, big (2x)
If You’d Like to Read a Book – Clap Your Hands

Book 3: Some Babies Sleep by Cynthia Cotten

Some babies sleep

One little human baby traveling the world and cuddling up to sleep with different animals in their own environments. This would be a fantastic bedtime bed. The rhymes are very soothing and soft, and the illustrations are full of warm-tones.
Closing Song
Jack & Jill
Fee, Fi Fo, Fum
If you’re happy and you know it
