Emily’s Shoes by Joan Cottle
Age: Beginning reader (Pre-K to K)
Children’s Press, 1999 / 31 pages
When her mother tells Emily “its time” Emily’s puts on different pairs of shoes for the different activities she may be doing.
This is a great book for preschoolers and kindergartener. The photos are really well done and do a fantastic job of bringing to life the activity associated with each shoe; soccer cleats for the game, or bunny slippers for the sleepover.
There is minimal writing, the focus is mainly on the pictures. There isn’t really a story either, its more of a concept book tying our outfits to our activities. I can see a follow-up book with business suits, gym clothes, aprons etc also tied into different activities in our lives.
